Show Review: Travis Thompson 5/31 at The Wild Buffalo
Show Review written by Autumn Brooks
When I say I’ve been waiting for this show for a long time, I mean it. I’ve been an avid Travis Thompson fan for 8 years so this was an extremely well-anticipated show for me. The show started with a DJ set from DJ BigRez which I thought was really helpful with easing everyone in to the venue and getting the crowd warmed up. He played a mix or current hits, old hits and a little bit of latin (?) inspired beats. I really enjoyed his talking to the crowd and hyping up of a rather stagnant and small audience. After DJ BigRez, a local favorite CHRVNS took the stage. If you’re reading this review, you know who Chris is. As always, CHRVNS brought the energy and crowd connection leaving the audience less stagnant than before. His ability to move a room and connect with a large audience is admirable and envious. This was my 2nd time getting to see CHRVNS perform and it did not disappoint, he’s a genius- lyrically and stage wise. Next, Oble Reed took the stage. I was super excited to see him perform after listening to his music (particularly his LINDENAVE! album) the entire week before the show. A favorite song of mine from the album is TWOTWOTWO. What drew me in to his performance was how passionate you could see he was about his performance and crowd delivery. He was sweating and smiling and looked like he was having the time of his life. He performed a couple songs from the aforementioned album and some from his newer album- RETROVISION. Reeds’ ability to tell stories through his music is incredible and in my opinion, very poetic. I definitely think he is an up and coming artist and I 100% recommend checking him out! Lastly, my favorite part of the show, Travis Thompson. Before coming to the stage, everyone had their flashlights on- making his entrance a little dramatic. Travis took the stage and immediately went in to performing. His energy as well was extremely high as he went back and forth across the stage. He performed new and old songs, which left me feeling a sense of nostalgia. Thompson was incredible, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing him live and it was well worth the wait.
