Sour Fuzz Releases Two New Singles

Written by William Morton

Bellingham-based rock trio, Sour Fuzz, just released two new singles: “Sempiternal” and “To The End.” Both released on Nov. 12, Sour Fuzz continues cultivating a proto-grungy, loosely metal and surf rock sort of sound. With crunchy and distorted guitar strumming and a vocal style similar to Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats mixed with Electric Wizard, Sour Fuzz is the type of band you can tell would be fun to see live.

“Sempiternal,” begins with a faded-out guitar alternating between two chords. The full band comes in around ten seconds later and the mixing and mastering is immediately impressive. Running for just under two and a half minutes, the chorus is marked by the repetition of the namesake word sempiternal — meaning eternal, unchanging or everlasting. Backup “yeahs” help fill the space and the cymbal-heavy four-four rock beat helps ground the listener.

"To The End," begins similarly with a faded-out guitar intro, but is immediately more upbeat. With a length of just over one and a half minutes, the song flies by. The guitar tone sounds overdriven or distorted and the vocals sound reverberated. Lyrically reminiscent of a love song, aesthetically reminiscent of a song they might play while teens are getting drunk in a coming-of-age movie. Reminiscent of angst and sweaty basement shows.

Along with the release of the singles on streaming platforms, Sour Fuzz released a music video for the song “To The End.” Keep an eye out for Sour Fuzz playing around the Bellingham and Seattle area. Although no future show dates are publicly available, you can expect to find them at venues such as The Shakedown, Ramble Tamble or The Wild Buffalo.
